Ready4H2 Director Barbara Jinks presented the project’s Phase 3 Report at the recent CEDIGAZ Seminar 2025 in Paris: Powering Gas-Based Energy Transition and Security with Data-Driven Insights. This annual event gathers leading companies from Europe and global energy minds to share knowledge in the gas and energy transition space.
Barbara spoke on a panel with ACER, ENTSOG and SNAM to discuss the role of gas infrastructure in the energy transition. It was clear that the vast gas infrastructures that already exist throughout Europe are invaluable in delivering green gases - they can be used for biomethane or repurposed for hydrogen. Barbara shared the key findings from Ready4H2 studies, that demonstrate that at least half of the hydrogen demand needs to be delivered by distribution grids, that repurposing gas distribution systems for hydrogen can be fast and cost-effective, that using all gas pipelines offers more flexibility and diversity in energy, and that the more remote regions of Europe could be developed faster using distributions for biomethane and hydrogen faster, without the need for transmission pipelines.
