The German Gas and Water Association (DVGW) has published its latest report “An overview of the decarbonisation of the natural gas system with hydrogen”. The aim of the report is to address the questions being asked in Europe and around the world about the safe use of hydrogen as a fuel and energy carrier, and make a scientifically sound contribution to the discussions underway between industry and policy makers on the use of hydrogen as a part of the decarbonisation of energy gases.
The report includes key findings on research, studies and projects on hydrogen transportation and storage, and the repurposing of existing natural gas infrastructure to transport hydrogen. It provides a comprehensive list of research that has been conducted as well as ongoing research. It finds that the utilisation of the existing gas infrastructure for hydrogen offers a technically sustainable, safe and realistic economic solution to replace fossil fuels and drive the energy transition forward in all sectors.
This and other reports (in German and English) can be found on the DVGW website here.
