Ready4H2 showcased its project work at the recent online EU Clean Hydrogen Alliance Buildings Roundtable, as the guest of the Roundtable facilitator, the European Heating Industry association (EHI). On 18 October, Ready4H2 project director, Barbara Jinks, presented an overview of the work that the project’s 70+ membership is conducting on the role of gas distribution grids in delivering hydrogen. The Roundtable met to discuss its draft report on the readiness of energy grids and heating appliances, due at the end of the year, and to learn about industry developments, such as Ready4H2.

Barbara stated that this meeting was important, as “it was good to see that the Alliance recognises that the plans to repurpose existing gas distribution grids, as well as expand the grids, offer tremendous opportunities to deliver decarbonised gases to buildings where there is no feasible alternative fuel”.

Member of the Roundtable, and member of Ready4H2 Steering Committee, Peter Demec from SPP-distribucia, said: “The work of Ready4H2 and ECH2A Buildings Roundtable are both crucial to explain to policy makers and the general public, the importance of hydrogen for heating where electrification is neither economic nor the best climate protective solution. The work of these two initiatives is complementary and their close cooperation provides tangible synergies to DSOs.”
