Gas distribution operators’ voices were well heard in Rotterdam today at the international EU Industrial Energy Days conference, as the Ready4H2 project Director Barbara Jinks moderated a panel talking about the use of hydrogen in decarbonising industry. On the panel were the Ready4H2 Netherlands country representative Bart Vogelzang, and representatives from the Port of Rotterdam (hydrogen strategy), LyondellBasell (innovation in petrochemical processes) and HyCC (green hydrogen project development).
The discussion centred around where hydrogen is best used, what hurdles are slowing progress down and what is needed to see a flourishing hydrogen market. It was an upbeat session with a wide range of project examples, grand plans and optimism. Clear messages were given that hydrogen is needed, the gas infrastructure can transport it, and there is a growing trend towards looking at hydrogen in terms of increased domestic energy resources, supply security and grid resilience.
The discussion will be continued at the parent conference ENLIT in Vienna in November.
