Aloma Gómez Reus, assistant to the Ready4H2 director, recently graduated from Leiden University with a Masters degree in International Relations and EU Studies. She has been a valuable member of the Ready4H2 project for over 6 months already under the Belgian CIP Internship programme, helping manage the work programme and manning the Brussels office. Through the internship, she is gaining hands-on experience in the latest policy, technical and project developments throughout Europe (how the Brussels Bubble works) related to the transportation and use of hydrogen for energy, and the role of gas distribution operators in the energy transition.
Her daily work is fulltime and includes assistance with tracking EU policy developments related to energy, coordinating stakeholders, project communications and contributing to advocacy for the use of the gas infrastructure in decarbonisation strategies across the European region.
Aloma's background in EU governance, policy-making and international cooperation enabled her to hit the ground running whilst the project has allowed her to bridge the gap between theory and practice, with a deeper understanding of the challenges involved in decarbonising energy systems, as well as realities that actors in the hydrogen sector are facing.
Aloma really enjoys her work, stating that "the Ready4H2 work has given me a great insight into the challenges for DSOs and countries in decarbonising energy and the day-to-day challenges the emerging hydrogen market is facing. I really appreciate witnessing how EU legislation is turned into concrete actions, while also being able to contribute in areas where the regulatory framework is still evolving or needs further development".
We encourage all organisations to employ young professionals through an internship – this attracts bright people to our industry and also supports and trains them for an initial period once they have entering this important and exciting sector.
