Our new guide shows how gas distribution networks can be adapted for hydrogen while maintaining existing gas operations, paving the way for a more integrated and decarbonised energy system.
Ready4H2 launched its new report Guide to Planning Gas Distribution Grids for Hydrogen during Hydrogen Week last week in Brussels. The launch was part of a function hosted by DVGW and ERIG with international representatives from the gas, electricity, manufacturing, transport and other industries related to the production, delivery and use of hydrogen.
The report provides guidance on the design, planning, permits, communications and logistics of either expanding a gas distribution grid or transforming part of it for hydrogen. It shows clearly that it is feasible to expand or transform part of a group for hydrogen whilst maintaining existing gas operations and that all technical issues are understood and manageable.
The clear message to policymakers, investors and participants in the hydrogen industry is that the gas distribution business it's ready for hydrogen and knows how to do it; this provides critical opportunities for increased renewable energy use, grid balancing and decarbonisation of the hard-to-decarbonise sectors.
The Guide is available here. A public webinar will be organised soon.
