Ready4H2 continues its workshop series for its members and partners. Members attended the 11th webinar to learn about the outcomes of a study in the Netherlands - the HyRegions 2: Exploring the Need For Regional Hydrogen Infrastructure

At the workshop, Frank Van Alphen, Expert Asset Management and Gas Network Strategist at Stedin and Ready4H2 Steering Committee co-representative for the Netherlands, presented the results of Phase 2 of the HyRegions project. The key finding is that distribution grids are essential to connect industry and deliver hydrogen.

The HyRegions project commenced in 2024, facilitated by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate, the Association of Provincial Authorities (IPO) and several transmission and distribution grid operators (including Ready4H2 members Stedin, Alliander and Netbeheer Nederland). The study explored the need for regional hydrogen infrastructure in 11 regional industrial clusters throughout the Netherlands by mapping the supply and demand of hydrogen, and identifying guiding principles for development.

Ready4H2 webinars are always interactive; at this webinar the discussion that followed the presentation was the opportunity for attendees to share knowledge on the latest technical and national policy developments, such as the importance of flexible (natural gas-hydrogen) water heaters in facilitating the uptake of hydrogen in buildings.
