Gas distribution was well represented at the recent Pipeline Technology Conference (PTC) in Berlin, a fast-growing international event with over 1,100 attendees from 61 countries. Ready4H2 Director Barbara Jinks shared the results of the recent Ready4H2 research and key developments in hydrogen distribution over 3 sessions. Discussions focussed on the role of DSO delivering hydrogen, repurposing existing steel and plastic pipes, safety, and projects in the field. Barbara also co-hosted an Operator Roundtable with SGN, focussing on lessons learned from projects, including the H1200 Fyfe project in Scotland.
The conference and extensive exhibition covered new technology and processes for pipelines, including innovation such as EMPIT’s pipeline drone inspection for unpiggable lines, new directional drilling and pipe laying from Herrenknecht and ROSEN’s latest inline inspection tools. The significance of gas pipelines in serving the vast energy demand by the rising number of data centres in Europe was presented by Dr Linke (Ready4H2 Steering Committee member for Germany), who gave a sobering overview of the sheer magnitude of this unstoppable development.
Importantly, PTC embraces young professionals through its YPPE programme and the Global Women in Pipelines forum ((in which Barbara is a mentor).
