One of the aims of the Ready4H2 project is stay up to date with technology and industry developments related to the delivery of hydrogen through the distribution grids. One such topic is the development of a sulphur-free odorant Scentinel by CPChem, which is being tested by some Ready4H2 members. Discussions have been held for a while on the testing and application of Scentinel, and at the recent Ready4H2 plenary meeting in Bonn, CPCHem visited and invited attendees to take the “sniff test”. One of the challenges of such a new odorant to be used in gas distribution is acceptance by the public and the recognition that this is not the same as the traditional natural gas odorants, but means there is a hydrogen leak.
